I am a big fan of light cotton knits, and they are so hard to find.
I really enjoy your writing, Louise. I have become more intentional in my shopping and have slowed down considerably this year. Your newsletter inspires me to keep at it, thank you.
Thank you, Laura! I plan on keeping track of the times I really want a light layer, and I am also keeping my eye open for when I might find one after the summer. It’s surprisingly rewarding to slow down and be intentional, isn’t it?
“The no-buy is curing me of my need to be acquisitive for the sake of it.” I feel this, Louise! You seem to be approaching this in a thoughtful way, exploring the challenges of entering a season that is not your favorite for dressing (mine is summer! I miss layers!) and what might really be additive to your future wardrobe.
I hope so - I really feel a shift in my emotions regarding solving wardrobe crises NOW! And getting through spring might be easier feeling that I have a plan in place!
I love that your no-buy is giving you time and space to see how you actually wear your clothes, and letting that influence future purchases. This especially resonated with me "What I do want to do is keep the pieces above in my mind, while I am dressing this spring. I want to make a note of when I think the items would be useful, and to see if there is anything I don’t think of at all."
I want to incorporate this method in creating a wishlist - so it's actually useful for me.
I do feel I need a plan, going forward - I don't want to lose everything I've gained this year when the brakes are off! I'm managing to be fairly consistent about what I am planning on buying, and I think maybe I can fight the impulse-buying.
I'm a big fan of transitional dressing myself these days, but only after I became really intentional about it. I used to struggle so badly, never knowing what to wear. I concur that light knits are a must! I'm kicking myself for having sold my beautiful navy cotton knit last year. For the life of me I don't know why I sold it!
Argh, that’s infuriating when you get rid of something you realise you needed! I am going to beat this - I’m going to really pay attention to what I feel I need this spring!
I totally relate to your dilemma with the transitional seasons and have also been thinking a lot about light cotton knits. You present some beautiful options here! Looking forward to seeing how you navigate it, Louise.
My plan is to just take notes, although I may have managed to parlay a belated birthday present into a linen shirt! I feel as though last year autumn was harder than spring, so I am going to try to plan for that.
