I prefer color. But, I’ve about decided it’s how our brains are wired. I have a few friends that live in the beige/taupe monochromatic decor. One tries to bring in color but it doesn’t last long. Their homes are lovely and elegant. Couple of years ago I had a dream I lived in a beautiful Paris apartment. Everything was white with gold accessories. It was beautiful. I tried to recreate something similar in my bedroom. It lasted about as long as color in my friend’s beige home. I think most things are just kind of hard wired. We can learn to appreciate other styles but don’t have to live in them.
Absolutely! And I do think that very often high-energy people crave calm, whereas low-energy people thrive when there’s more to look at! Plus there is what you were brought up with, and how you relate to that.
“But I (generally speaking) am a calm person, and so if I’m surrounded by what reads to me as emptiness, it doesn’t calm me, it just makes me agitated and restless. The colours, the textures, the every object with a purpose or a story - they seep into all the spaces in my brain, and fill them with happiness and reassurance”
This 1000000%! I think this is why I so prefer cities to the quietude of suburbia. I’m glad you’re on the other side of things, I hope you’re feeling better in body and spirit among your things and your niece’s food. Onward!
Onward indeed! And yes, this is probably why my idea of a holiday is charging around a city going to museums and restaurants, instead of lying on a beach - I can relax at home, so I need big-city energy to refresh me!
Wishing you a full and speedy recovery! And thank you for the peek into your beautiful home. It’s full of color and joy and life. I can imagine how it helps you feel enveloped in happiness.
Oh Louise, so wonderful to read this and know you are home, recovering and enjoying all the creature comforts of home, colour, cosiness, your niece’s delicious cooking, and cuppas!! 💗🙏🏡🎉
Oh is it good to hear that your procedure went well and you are home in your nest being well-tended! I will go home tomorrow, unsure whether spouse is capable of tending. Always this guessing game… ahead of surgery, I think I’d rather just go home and then once I’m through I think I was very stupid indeed to not book the extra two-week stay in a fancy rehab clinic with a view (Switzerland excels in these).
I have to say, fancy rehab clinic sounds rather good! But I am so glad to be home with all my familiar things to hand, especially now that I’m getting better, so am actually more uncomfortable!
i'm thrilled to see your framed color samples, and the color dots - I have the same type of 'art'! your home not only feeds your soul, it feeds mine too. I'm glad your procedure is behind you....
Louise, I am very happy that your procedure went well and you are back home, being taken cara of by the people you love. I hope very soon you get your first good night of sleep, and of course things go as good as they can!

Thanks Cristiana! Luckily as soon as I got home I slept wondergully in my lovely comfy bed!
