My mother loved antiques and had a fabulous curio cabinet. Art and books were not a priority … as an adult I am paired with a book-lover. I love our home, the rugs I’ve acquired over the years, his books and the art we’ve selected together.
I still have some of the antiques I grew up with, including a cannonball (!) that 10-year-old me dug out of the roots of a shrub at my Midwest family home. And an ancestor’s doctor’s prescription for liquor, with the bottle in its box, a relic from days of Prohibition here.
Beauty, usefulness, memories - our lives are rich with these things ❤️
I love the way you put that! And yes, it's all these things, isn't it - the things we have had all our lives, the things we've amalgamated acquired, and the things with new memories as well.
What a lovely, cosy read and I love that you love your family's homes too 😍 my mum and grandma's homes always feel like 'home home' to me. Like little havens when you live abroad
😍😍😍 ADORE all of this!!! Words and pics!!! (I feel like I’ve just flicked through the pages of the most gorgeous interiors book, but the kind I like most that feel real, lived in, warm, cosy, wonderful …). Honestly, you had me at those trays at the top and that candle glow!!! (Frankly, waiting for the SLS home book here!! 📕🇮🇹💕) ❤️
I find a lack of books in any space whether a home or office to be scary and alarming. As an introvert at parties I’m that person over on the couch engrossed in a coffee table book about some arcane topic.
Years ago several of my profs used to hold music parties rotating between their homes. I preferred to time my arrival to when the music had probably started so I could avoid any need for small talk and could just sit down and start jamming, but if I arrived earlier I enjoyed browsing the books. Over many years one of those profs became a dear friend. He had grown up in a college town where his parents had owned a bookstore. He was always so generous lending and giving his students books.
He told me one time that with books I was “like a dog.” I asked him what he meant. He said, “When a dog goes into a house they aren’t comfortable until they’ve walked around and sniffed everything. When you go into a new home you aren’t comfortable until you’ve inspected all of the bookshelves and the art on the walls.”
I am in my fat bed reading this and loving every word and picture ❤️
I’m in my fat bed reading your book! 🏡❤️
Hahaha, so pleasing all round!
Beautifully put, it is a wonder how people live in rooms with no pictures on the walls and no books in sight 🫧
I know! Not a fate that is likely to befall any of us luckily :)
I love your squishy sofa 🩷
It is the squishiest! The only drawback is that you do have to re-plump the seat cushions every time you sit on it!

What a beautiful ode to your home and those of your family.
Thanks, Sigrid. I'm so enjoying having time to be at home right now!
The epitome of home ♥️
Your home is so beautiful! I love all the colors and layers of memories
Thanks Sita! I really appreciate my home!

Yes, it’s so important to feel at home when you are with family, isn’t it?
Oh it so is!

You are always too kind! And, I love a good pile of trays to go with my candles :)
